About the Artist

CATHY WALKER is an artist that paints with oil colors. Her work hangs in many private and corporate collections around the world. From 1975 to 1987 her work was signed under the name Thomson until Oct.3rd of 1987 when she remarried. She was born in Michigan but grew up in Southern California sun bathing the beaches at Laguna, Balboa and Newport. As a young teen she began dabbling with her father's house paints. She would take pieces of wood from the garage and paint misty seascapes and at one time her parent's indoor fireplace. She discovered later, why it was never used again. After a short time in the United States Air Force she married in 1972 and became a mother of a lovely daughter and attended classes at Santa Ana College to become a medical assistant. She worked at various related positions in that field, and also enjoyed several years working for a jewelry company in sales and management. As an artist she continues to paint the beauty she is blessed to see in our world on land and below into the waters that are a part of her soul. She also enjoys traveling so she can experience life's changes and challenges. Her California art experience was wonderful but life in Hawaii brought her the deepest emotional experience. The scenery of the ocean and the mountains captured her heart forever. Cathy experienced extensive scuba diving in the Hawaiian Islands and viewed the colors she uses in her underwater sea life paintings first hand. She sold her work at the Honolulu Zoo fence for eight years which has been a well established art show for the gathering artists since the 1930's and where many artist's became recognized by collector's around the world. She and her family left the islands to live in Virginia for a few years near the Potomac River where she enjoyed the four seasons and sold her work at many art shows in Fredericksburg. She now resides in Florida and she is enjoying the atmosphere she can relate to as an artist. As you can see in her work, water dominates most of her paintings. Cathy also enjoys the pleasure of creating unusual scenes as viewed in her work 'Dreamscapes'. She has said many of the Dreamscape's are a 'Sea of Dream's' and she is passionate about this style of painting she has created. Placing the ocean waves with the universe is a wonderful blend.
